How did the Taliban come to  power?

Originally the Taliban groups formed during the war against the soviet forces. Talibani said themselves that they are the holy warriors or freedom fighters. Actually the Taliban rise to power after the withdrawal of soviet forces, the soviet backed government to the Mujahideen. Now later Taliban became a religious and political militant organization that attempts to enforce Sharia law and Islamic government throughout the Middle East and in other lands. The group is known to excommunicate or kill those who do not follow their radical interpretation of Islamic beliefs.

The Taliban were largely founded by Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) during 1994. The I.S.I. used the Taliban to establish a regime in Afghanistan which would be favorable to Pakistan, as they were trying to gain strategic depth. Since the creation of the Taliban, the ISI and the Pakistani military have given financial, logistical and military support also.

 

According to local newspaper  there are  35,000 Afghan Taliban fighters currently operating.

Many women of Afghanistan were committed suicide instead of following the Taliban strict rule. Some of them are below.

  • Afghan women were forced to wear the burqa at all times in public place.

  • women were not allowed to work.
  • They were not allowed to be educated after the age of eight.
  • They have only a permission  only to study the Quran.
  • Women should not appear in the streets without a blood relative or without wearing a burqa.

  • Women should not wear high-heeled shoes as no man should hear a woman’s footsteps lest it excite him.
  • Women must not speak loudly in public as no stranger should hear a woman’s voice.
  • All ground and first floor residential windows should be painted over or screened to prevent women being visible from the street.
  • Photographing or filming of women was banned as was displaying pictures of females in newspapers, books, shops or the home.
  • The modification of any place names that included the word “women”. For example, “women’s garden” was renamed “spring garden.

  • Women were forbidden to appear on the balconies of their apartments or houses.
  • Ban on women’s presence on radio, television or at public gatherings of any kind.
  • Ban on women riding bicycles or motorcycles, even with their mahrams.
  • Women were forbidden to ride in a taxi without a mahram.
  • Segregated bus services introduced to prevent males and females traveling on the same bus.

Rules for men:

The Taliban also has some strict rules for men as well. Men must always have beards that they are not allowed to shape or trim.They must wear white caps or turbans too. Imagine not having control over your own appearance? For both women and men, this seems like a very hard way of living. One last rule for men is that they cannot approach a female without first being introduced by a male relative. People in these areas affected by the Taliban definitely do not have the freedom to be themselves, on any level.

Punishment for men, women and children:

  • Women who disobeyed would be beaten or killed.
  • A women caught painted her  finger nailpaint would have her fingers chopped off.
  • A men who found to talk with any women would be brutally punished.

In March 2001 Taliban leader Mullah Mohammed Omar passed the ordered to destroy the Buddhas statues.

Which was built in the 6th century before Islam had travelled to the central Afghanistan region, the two Buddhas of Bamiyan were famous for their beauty, craftsmanship and of course, size. The taller of the two Buddhas stood at more than 170 feet high, with the second statue at nearly 115 feet. They were once the world’s largest standing Buddhas.

Al Qaeda consists of Sunni Muslims who practise Wahabism, which is considered to be the most extreme and violent form of Islam). Al Qaeda means “the base” or “the foundation”. Taliban means talib that means “student. By this principle they both align, and become more voilence for the safety of world.

Taliban gained power in 1994 with the capture of Kandahar City and surrounding areas. Taliban received support from the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) in Pakistan. After capturing Kabul in 1996, the Taliban imposed Sharia law in Afghanistan banning video films, dancing, trimming

Mullah Mohammed Omar:

Mullah Akhtar Mohammad Mansour:

  • Commander of the Faithful elected in July 2015.
  • Killed in May 2016 of a U.S. drone strike. The U.S. government, Afghan government, Al-Qaeda, and the Taliban confirmed the death.

Mawlawi Haibatullah Akhundzada:

  • Commander of the Faithful elected on May 2016.
  • A few days after the US drone killed his predecessor.

After 9/11 attacks USA made following demands of the Taliban.

  • Deliver to the U.S. all of the leaders of Al-Qaeda.
  • Release all foreign nationals that have been unjustly imprisoned.
  • Protect foreign journalists, diplomats, and aid workers.
  • Close immediately every terrorist training camp.
  • Hand over every terrorist and their supporters to appropriate authorities.
  • Give the United States full access to terrorist training camps for inspection.

In 2001, U.S. President George W. Bush demanded that the Taliban hand over Osama bin Laden. Bin Laden had already been wanted by the United Nations since 1999. The Taliban declined to hand over him unless given what they deemed convincing evidence of his involvement in the 9/11 attacks. Than after USA launched Operation Enduring Freedom with the United Kingdom. The main moto of this operations was to kill laden and and give freedom to Afghanistan from Taliban group.
