is the national intelligence agency of Israel. It is one of the main entities in the Israeli Intelligence Community, along with Aman (military intelligence) and Shin Bet (internal security).

Mossad is responsible for intelligence collection, covert operations, and counter terrorism. In contrast to the government and military, the goals,
structure and powers of the Mossad are exempt from the Basic Laws of Israel. However, its activity is subject to secret procedures that have never been published. Its director reports directly to the Prime Minister.
Its counter-terrorist unit is known as Kid on.

The founding of the Mossad left all official and overt diplomatic activities to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; military intelligence, intelligence analysis, and information assessment to the Intelligence Division (Aman) of the Israeli Defense Force (IDF);
Counterinsurgency and counterespionage inside the country to the Security Service (Shin Bet); and counter-criminal intelligence to the police.

All covert activities and espionage abroad were assigned to the Mossad.
When the US Atomic Energy Commission realized that 90 kilograms (200 lb) of uranium had disappeared without explanation in 1965.
US intelligence agencies became convinced that it had been illicitly transported to Israel’s Dimona nuclear reactor.
The Mossad maintains numerous Israeli secret agents in Arab and other nations. The most famous of these was Eli Cohen, an Egyptian-born Jew who infiltrated the highest ranks of the Syrian government by posing as a Syrian businessman before being discovered and executed in 1965.
The Mossad and its operatives have carried out undercover operations against enemies of Israel and former Nazi war criminals living abroad.
Mossad agents tracked down and assassinated the Arab guerrilla leaders responsible for the massacre of Israeli athletes at the 1972 Munich Olympic Games, and the Mossad has also been linked with several assassinations of Palestinian leaders in Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa.

The head of the Mossad, whose identity was for many years kept secret, was directly responsible to the prime minister and served as chairman of the coordinating committee of all heads of Israel’s intelligence services.
In 1952, Shiloah was replaced by Isser Harel, until then the head of the Shin Bet, who went on to serve as director of the Mossad for more than a decade.
The Kidon is a unit which belongs to the Caesarea department (one of Mossad’s eight departments).
It is described by Yaakov Katz as “an elite group of expert assassins who operate under the Caesarea branch of the espionage organization.
Not much is known about this mysterious unit, details of which are some of the most closely guarded secrets in the Israeli intelligence community.”
It recruits from “former soldiers from the elite IDF special force units. “This unit has been a part of Israel’s policy of assassinations, a policy that Israel has used more than any other country in the West.
Caesarea tried for many years to assassinate Palestine Liberation Organization leader Yasser Arafat, a job later tasked.
Israel’s Minister of Defense Ariel Sharon to a military special ops task force code named “Salt Fish,” later renamed “Operation Goldfish,” specially created for the job of assassinating Arafat.
